Stay tuned this week-end as our two skippers will depart from Le Havre on Sunday to cross the Atlantic ocean steering towards South America. The 50-feet trimaran is sponsored by Rennes and St Malo and is already using some features brought up by a local start-up thanks to a contest launched this month !
Starting off soon…
As you may already know, Cancale-based sailor Gilles Lamiré and his co-skipper Yvan Bourgnon are off to start the Transat Jacques Vabre on Sunday. We will be there (and we hope you will too) to encourage them to reach the Brazilian’s coastline safe and victorious.
A sponsorship renewed
Just in case you need to refresh your memory, this project of sailing sponsorship – funded by Rennes Métropole and Saint-Malo Agglomération – show how committed the two collectivities are to support territorial startups together with the development of innovation within the economy. At the renewal of the sponsorship, Gilles explained his views on ocean racing and how we could draw some parallels with entrepreneurs launching a business (read the article).
Start-ups getting involved
The #WinchPitch was organised on the 13th of October to enhance the skippers’ performance in any way possible. Seven startups applied to pitch their innovative projects in front of the sailors, going from weather-related topics to safety improvements. Cyberespar and Weather’n’co convinced them to join the adventure and they are now on board, literally, as the latter has already been asked to add its features on the trimaran for the Transat Jacques Vabre 2015. The partnership can last 4 years, as long as the sponsorship ! The five remaining start-ups were offered a sailing trip with Gilles on his own trimaran, not too shabby…
Follow the trimaran and our skippers thanks to the link above. We are proud to represent our collectivities and to have Gilles and Yvan behind the wheel.
